Heroes come in all sizes: MeMaw (Leslie Seeberger) calls her 8-year-old grandson Eddy her hero.

Is it any wonder? It turns out Eddy is a chip off the old block. Whenever he goes to MeMaw and B-Paw’s house in Vernonia, Oregon, Eddy is eager to help load and stack firewood, mow the lawn, pull weeds and clean horse stalls. MeMaw says from the time he could walk, Eddy wanted to feed the dogs and chickens, and pack the kindling. Little sister Maeve comes along for the ride.

The science is clear: Eddy and those guiding him are on to something. Chores have huge benefits for kids. They teach them to be considerate, helpful and responsible. A picture of Eddy the Helper is worth a thousand words.
