What Is It?
Celebrate winter with parades, music and snow sculpting at the McCall Winter Carnival in McCall Idaho, from January 28 to February 6.
In 1924, McCall hosted the predecessor to the Winter Carnival, the Payette Lakes Sports Carnival. Events included snowshoe races, ski jumping and horse skijouring. However, the last event was in 1941.
In 1965, the carnival came back, as a two-day event. Now, it has grown to 10 days and is regularly attended by more than 60,000 people. Events include snow sculptures, parades, sledding, music and more.
The McCall Winter Carnival hosts the Annual Idaho Snow Sculpting Championship. Artists fashion huge works of art out of snow, using only lathe, wire, rebar and PVC pipe to support the structure. The mammoth designs are highlights of the carnival.
More To Do
There is plenty to do in McCall. There is plenty of downhill and nordic skiing in the area, including at Tamarack Resort, Brundage Mountain and Bear Basin. The local restaurants and breweries can help warm you up after a day in the winter weather.
