Writing & Photography Guidelines

Ruralite is a monthly, family-oriented, general-interest publication that rural electric cooperatives in Alaska, Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Nevada, California and Montana use to communicate with their members. Readers are predominantly rural, small-town residents who are interested in stories about people and issues pertinent to their lifestyles and communities. Engaging human-interest features are the cornerstone of the magazine.

Amount of payment is agreed upon ahead of time and varies depending on scope, nature and reach of the work. Stories and artwork are purchased as a package. Payment is on acceptance of the completed package. Lead time for seasonal articles is four months.

Tips for Getting Published in Ruralite

  • Familiarize yourself with our content. We are especially interested in human-interest features in the communities we serve.
  • Whet our appetite with a sample lead, then briefly outline where the story will go. Cite sources and photo possibilities.
